I know that I have said that I don't like to stage or set up photos. But every once in a while an idea pops up and just won't go away until you at least try it.
In this case a friend of my bands worked for Vans and found out we were touring for the military. She had them make a custom pair of American Flag Vans for Justin our drummer. As we were traveling with the military I kept seeing his shoes next to the combat boots and trying to catch them together. After several failed attempts I just asked some troops to pose with him so I could take the picture.
Right now it seems a little hard to post a patriotic picture. The political climate in the United States is very polar and unfortunately getting worse. Our economy is still hovering just above dead, our government spending is still in numbers so large that a normal calculator can't do the math, and the people in charge of fixing these issue couldn't agree on the colors of the American Flag. I personally believe that this election year is going to mark an all time low in American politics.
But there's still something about America that stands out, there is still some American Spirit left in the country. There is still something about the sight of the Flag waving in the breeze, or an honor guard carrying the colors. In the midst of every crisis imaginable we still take the time help and give till it hurts, we as Americans have possibly done more to help the world than we have done to harm it. I know this is an extremely debatable position and I'm always open to hear any and all arguments to the contrary. But after having traveled quite a bit throughout the world I can say that I have seen good come from our sometimes mixed up foreign policies.
I have many doubts about the future of this country and the way we as people tend to stick our heads in the sand instead of facing our problems; but no matter where I go or whom I am with, when someone asks where I'm from I'll always say I'm American.
